January/February 2010

At last I can breathe easy. Love Is The Reason has been accepted and I’ve moved on to the editing stage. My fantastic editor, Gaye, has the sharpest eye in the publishing world! Nothing escapes her and every word of advice is for the greater good of the story.

It’s such a relief to submit a manuscript after working on it for months on end, living with the characters, sometimes even going as far as dreaming about them—nightmares in certain instances. And then, like most good friends, as soon as they’ve left your life you miss them. But the editing stage gives the writer a chance to  take everything a step deeper, expand on any loose ends, see a story through the experts’ eyes and bring it to its highest dimension.

So once I’ve put Lucy, Delia and Matt from Love Is The Reason to bed finally, I will move on with my next novel, Love Plus One, and get to know Celeste, Daragh and Juliette. And the whole saga will start all over again—the magic of writing. I don’t know where these characters come from but I can tell you that a huge part of story development is the magic of allowing our subconscious freedom and putting away that critical voice in our heads.

Apart from writing, I’ve been doing some library visits, a terrific morning in Midleton Library with the reader’s group and writer’s group being top of my list. There were some terrific writers there and I’ve no doubt but I’ll be going to hear them speaking about their published works in the not too distant future.

Hope 2010 will be a good one  for you all,

Follow your dreams and think positively—it may not work miracles but will help you feel better about things.

I’m off now to finish my book (the one I’m reading that is), will be back with further updates. Hopefully I’ll be able to show you the jacket design of Love Is The Reason next time even though it’s not due on the shelves until November—just in time for next Christmas! Can you believe it, I’m talking about Christmas 2010 already. On that note, I think I’ll curl up by the fire and read some more. All thoughts of Christmas are welcome to stay in the attic with the tinsel and twinkling lights for ten months more...although, now that I think of it, I’ll be doing the booktour circuit in November and I can’t wait... Talk soon, take care,

Mary.
